What it means to be Snug

February 19, 2017

1. To be cosy, warm and comfortable

2. Feelings of contentment and serenity

1. Fashionably elegant and sophisticated.

2. To have or display good taste and a sense of style

At snug, this is our perogative; to create beautifully individual homewares, that marry classic country fabrics of tweed and wool with contemporary design.

Born out of a simple love of creativity and a long time infatuation with homes and interiors (from the early days of Changing Rooms to today's Great Interior Design Challenge), Snug is the realisation of the notion that nothing is impossible when it comes to handmade - not even blending cosiness with style!

That, along with a penchant for art, I inherited from my parents. Growing up, if we didn't have it and wanted it, there was a high possibility that we could make it! From floats at the village fete, to my leavers ball prom dress - I grew up believing nothing was impossible.

It all started with cushions. Firstly, you can never have too many, and often, the more you have the better (and more cosy) they look! I've always loved the fact that they are such an easy way to add your personality to a room. Whether it's your way of stamping some colour on your neutral sofa or a chance to add some much needed texture to your scandi-style bedroom. Cushions can give any room an uplift and are often the perfect finishing touch to a room.

I wanted to create quality handmade home accessories that blend classic country style with contemporary design - so whether you live in a chocolate box cottage, village manor, or a stunning grand design, I wanted to ensure my pieces would bring a sense of hygge and style to your home.

Having grown up in the wilds of Wiltshire, spending most of my time on horseback and now living in the Dorset countryside, I love the country style, especially the texture and colours of tweed. It is a fabric that epitomises style and comfort, and has such a deep heritage in the UK. Now available in an array of colours and patterns (I can't get my hands on enough!) tweed, is effortlessly stylish. That is why each piece is designed to bring a pop of colour and texture to a room, just enough to brighten and warm, but not overpower, your interior space.

Wool has such great texture, and I have to say I've fallen head over heels for really

chunky knits. Nothing beats coming home on a cold wintry evening to curling up in front of the wood burner under a thick woollen throw. Talk about feelings of contentment and serenity! All that's missing is a good book and a hot cup of cocoa...

Nothing pleases me more than designing our next piece, whether it's a footstool pattern, a bespoke set of cushions where we've been given a brief on colour but free rein on pattern, or a chunky knit throw. Seeing a design come to life out of fabrics made out of authentic traditions (Harris Tweed) or designer offcuts given a new lease of life - it gives me great pride to handover a completely hand made piece that will be a gift or a treat for a freshly decorated living room.

All our labels and packaging are made from recycled or biodegradable materials, why? Because I care about the impact this little business has on the environment, and I know you care about how your carefully chosen piece arrives with you. Having an innate love of the countryside and being outdoors, I want to ensure it is cared for as much as our homes are, inside.

The ethos? Snug and stylish homewares that make you feel good. Handmade in Dorset with uncompromising quality - always.
