The start of a new year tends to bring with it a fresh yearning for changes, be that at work, in health or through personal goals you want to achieve.
Your home and the way you feel about it is no different. The space in which you live sets the tone for how you feel when you arrive home and can impact how quickly you wind down or how relaxed you feel about hosting and entertaining friends.
So if your space is looking a little tired and worn, the chances are it's making you feel that way too!
Whether you have a full redecoration in mind or just a refresh and restyle, here are our top picks of the styles and trends set to gain momentum this year:
We're big fans of monochrome. Tones of grey and white provide a stunning clean backdrop for any home. Greys are very timeless and make for a great feature wall colour when you are wanting to make a style statement without committing to a bold bright colour (after all, this can be added with some well chosen accessories!).
White - be that crisp or mellow, lends itself completely with the very popular scandi style (a softer look than the usual hard contrasts of monochrome) and makes for a clean refreshing change to magnolia.
You can add shape to to a room painted in these neutral colours through texture; think chunky knit throws (yes we can help you there!), the exquisite uneven but stylish look of hand thrown ceramic mugs (check out ML ceramics on Etsy for some great pieces). And don't forget you can add a pop of colour through styling via accessories - take a look at our Claret Tweed cushion or the small but perfectly formed Cheriton )
Personally I love the way monochrome works with industrial chic furniture - complementing the increasing popularity of dark metal legged furniture (check out RCC Furniture for some gorgeous handmade pieces).
'MADE FROM' SOURCE
We are all becoming increasingly aware of what we consume and what resources we're depleting for comparatively short term satisfaction. Part of Snug's ethos is to do our very best to make things that not only make your home look good, but make you feel good to.
The calico backing to our cushions is made from organic, natural cotton from Fairtrade farms in Kerala. We think it's so important to be able to tell people who buy our products
what they're made of and where it came from.
And we're not the only ones! If you want to shop small and support sustainable businesses, other brands doing this well are:
Strong, durable and beautiful, I'm not sure you can go wrong with adding some marble pieces to your home this year! Whether you want to go all out solid or simply marble effect, the effect is still a touch of luxury - we love this great concrete marble effect planter from Trendbolt on Etsy or these stunning and unique black marble effect mason jars by Bear Claw co.
Ok so this one has gradually risen in popularity since early 2016 - but now we've reached the crest of the wave - and I have to say its grown on me! Copper contrasts perfectly with white or black, making more of a statement than silver but without the brashness of gold. Copper is also more forgiving when bought on a budget than gold, and there are some great handmade options out there for all budgets. Here at Snug, we're clamouring for:
- Succulent planters - handmade from concrete & dipped in copper, the perfect combination! (NatureCraftMoulds)
- Copper and glass tea light holders - grey to bring warmth to your dining table or window ledge (By AugustGlassdesigns)
No home is complete without plants and if you are looking to give your home or room a
simple uplift, adding some carefully chosen houseplants is the quickest and easiest way to do it.
Fresh green leaves add a vibrancy and vitality to a room and whether home grown or the result of a slow Sunday wander around your local garden centre, placing a healthy green plant in a well chosen, light corner of your home is guaranteed to make you smile!
We're just 5 minutes from Cranborne Garden centre - a real treat of a visit on a weekend - especially when you can combine it with a spot of yoga or a visit to the cafe for lunch...
Happy home styling,
The Snug Team
